The Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University has been supporting Westlake Chinese School / Westlake Chinese Culture Association (WCCA) in many ways. They successfully co-hosted or sponsored our annual Chinese New Year Celebration Party since 2010; helped training several of our teachers; provided many teaching materials for our classes.

The Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University Overview


The Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University was established on August 8, 2008 and is co-sponsored by CSU and Hanban (also known as the Office of Chinese Language Council International). Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing is our partner University in China.

The Confucius Institute is a non-profit public institute with a mission of promoting Chinese culture and language worldwide. CSU’s Confucius Institute focuses on a number of different tasks. The Institute prepares teachers of Chinese and helps these teachers find and succeed at jobs in Ohio. It works with area school districts and has assisted in the creation of CSU’s Campus International School, which has a strong focus on Chinese. It conducts student and faculty exchanges between Ohio and China, and supports Chinese professionals and businesses locating in Ohio while helping Ohio companies to do business with China. The Confucius Institute was instrumental in the creation of CSU’s Chinese Language Teaching Licensure program, which was initiated in Spring 2011.
