Course Introduction

Teaching purpose: Learning pinyin well is very helpful for typing and looking up dictionaries. The teaching purpose of this course is to accurately confirm, write and read pinyin, master special pinyin rules (for example, when j, q, x, y encounters ü, take off the little hat on it), and understand and recognize radicals (188 radicals, Learn 6-7 per class), and learn simple Chinese characters on top of that (such as "I" wants to eat "饣" because I'm "hungry", or "18 x 6" is "school", "from small to large" " is "pointy")

Students need to prepare: notebooks, 3x5 cards (parents are advised to prepare small boxes or pockets to prevent littering) and a plastic reading board (doodle board, dry erase board is not recommended, children scribble and doodle, the pen is also easy to dry; The electronic board is afraid that the child will break it), color pens

Homework requirements: Focus on reading, supplemented by writing. At the same time, let the children make up their own songs. Before each new class, there will be a test of the knowledge points of the previous class, and the test results will be returned to the parents at the end of the school year.

Remarks: Because the students are young, we hope that a parent will help maintain the order in each class. Parents are requested to discuss the date by themselves.

Simplified Chinese Class 2

Instructor: Weicheng Huang

Target Student:

Age 6--10 years old, grades 1--4

Course Introduction

The second grade is one of the most difficult grades in Ma Liping's textbooks. After entering the second grade, students should not only maintain the progress of learning new characters, but also consolidate the previously learned Chinese characters as much as possible. This grade's texts and reading materials will appear more in the form of essays. Chinese learning in the second grade is an obvious "hurdle", which requires the joint efforts of teachers and parents to help students break through the bottleneck of literacy, so as to achieve the purpose of improving reading. This outline is summarized from the following four aspects: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

One, listen
1.     Can understand the teacher's requirements and instructions in class, for example: please open the second page of the book. Please read the first paragraph aloud. Please use to make a sentence.
2.     Can understand simple stories, for example: a tadpole looking for a mother.

Two, say
1. Able to conduct daily conversations and answer questions from teachers. For example: What does this radical mean? Do you think the little monkey is smart?
2. Can interpret a sentence or a simple event after understanding what someone said. For example: Today we learned the story of the little white rabbit. The little white rabbit likes to work and grows a lot of cabbage.
3. Continue to learn the correct pronunciation, and be able to apply the new words or grammar points learned in the classroom to the usual speech. For example: I like football more and more. I can run faster than Maya. The moon is sometimes curved and sometimes round.

Three, read
1. About 60 Chinese ideographic radicals will be studied in this school year, and Chinese characters will be taught from the radicals. So as to achieve the purpose of consolidating the first grade Chinese characters and learning new characters. E.g:
氵 扌 辶 艹  女  亻 釒 口  门  日  心  犭 刂  讠 土  忄
2. The second grade will learn 600-700 new words, which requires a lot of memory. The best way is to put new words in the text and learn to recognize characters by reading aloud.
Examples of some new words: I was so anxious to catch the night, I quickly pulled it backwards with Lao Kuai, and the other was long and straight. 3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ Catch some more hungry, no more points

Sample text:
fishing for the moon
One night, a little monkey was playing by the well. He looked into the well, and there was a moon in it. The little monkey screamed anxiously: "Oh, no, the moon fell in the well!"
The big monkey heard it, ran over to take a look, and hurriedly called out, "Oh, no,, the moon fell into the well!"
3. There are some after-class reading stories after each class, aiming to increase the reading volume and improve the reading ability. Not all students are required to know all Chinese characters. It can be used as a reading exercise or as a storytelling exercise.

Fourth, writing is not required to be able to write all the new characters, and focus on learning to write radicals and the new characters derived from radicals. Main requirements 1. Good looking    2. Uniform size Vertical    4. Neat and clean

In addition to the teaching objectives above, there will be homework in each class. For example: read the text aloud, copy and write new words, do the workbooks that match the teaching materials, and do online homework.

Course Introduction

Learning Content:
1. Pinyin
After studying two textbooks (Ma Liping's first grade and second grade), the first unit of the third grade will start to learn Pinyin systematically and in detail. Including: birth mother, finals, compound finals, spelling and writing rules of pinyin, etc.

2. Vocabulary: Grade 3 is a grade in which literacy continues to "climb" in Ma Liping's textbooks. After students enter the third grade, in addition to consolidating the Chinese characters they have learned in the first and second grades, they will learn the text more in the form of vocabulary.
E.g:
You may not have noticed how time passes, little boy! He passed by quietly and in a hurry. When you lie down and rest, it slips past your bed quietly; when you sit and read, it passes by your desk unknowingly. You play on the playground, you play on the grass, and it runs past your laughter. Did you notice it?

3. Compound Sentence:
Compared with the simple single sentences in the first and second grades, the third grade is more about the learning of various complex sentences.
E.g:
Although... but since... even if...

4. Read:
Reading remains a top priority in third grade textbooks. There are many idiom stories and some classical legends involving Chinese culture in the texts and reading materials of this grade.
E.g:
Cao Chong said that the purpose of reading is to not only let students review and consolidate vocabulary and grammar, but also deepen their understanding and understanding of Chinese culture.

In addition to the above, homework will be left after each class.
For example: reading texts aloud; copying new words; doing workbooks and online homework that match the teaching materials.

Course Introduction

Course introduction:
Welcome all students to study Chinese at Cleveland Westlake Chinese School. Simplified Chinese Class 4 focuses on improving applied listening and speaking skills.
The teaching content of this course is conducted on the principle of equal emphasis on academic literacy levels. The enhancement of listening and speaking ability is centered on improving students' enthusiasm and participation. Through various teaching forms, the training of listening and speaking ability on related topics is carried out in class. The improvement of reading and writing level takes Ma Liping's fourth textbook as the main teaching material. It teaches students to correctly read and write Chinese words at the fourth grade level, and to read complete sentences and paragraphs smoothly, so as to accurately understand the specific sentences and the meaning of the articles. In view of the differences in the age and Chinese level of the whole class, according to the situation of each student, the basic knowledge of Chinese at the corresponding level will be reviewed and homework will be assigned.

Classroom Guidelines:
1. Before class, ask parents to arrange a quiet and suitable space for their children to study, and then use a computer or tablet to log in to the teacher
Zoom meeting ID and turn on the video and audio function to facilitate smooth interaction between students and teachers in class.
2. It is forbidden to use network devices to play games and make loud noises in online classes.
3. Listen carefully to the speeches of teachers and other students, respect teachers and classmates, and treat teachers and classmates with courtesy.

teaching plan:
1. Improvement of listening and speaking ability: in the form of life and academic topics, one topic every two weeks. For example: the theme of the first and second week of school is self-introduction. . It is planned that the content of listening and speaking ability training will gradually transition from simple life topics (such as restaurant ordering) to academic topics related to Chinese human geography knowledge (such as a brief introduction to Beijing, the capital of China) later in the school year.
2. Improve reading and writing level: Based on Ma Liping's fourth volume of textbooks, study related words, phrases, sentences and paragraphs, and plan to complete one lesson of text content every two weeks. The content of Ma Liping's fourth textbook has already covered idiom stories such as "Tian Ji's Horse Racing" and "Sai Weng Lost a Horse", as well as reading materials for mythological stories such as "Chang'e Flying to the Moon". The difficulty of new words and sentences is similar to that of the fifth grade level of the current Chinese version. Therefore, according to the current Chinese level of the students in the fourth grade class, each text will be explained in an easy-to-difficult manner, explaining words and related words and sentences in detail, and words and paragraphs that are too difficult will only introduce the general idea.
3. Consolidation of basic knowledge: The content includes 1. Knowledge of systematic pinyin; 2. Writing, reading and memory of 1000 commonly used basic Chinese characters, words and example sentences.

Course Introduction

Ma Liping's sixth grade textbook is an important turning point - teaching grammar and writing. The 7th grade textbook further teaches students to learn different types of writing styles. These two textbooks require students to synthesize and apply previously learned word and sentence knowledge to writing. Writing essays is a difficult point for students. The problem that students often encounter is that they don’t know how to start writing the essay, and they can’t go on without writing a few sentences. How to enable students to write fluent, beautiful sentences and articles is the top priority of my teaching.
